typical GISCA tournament, this tournament

Round 1 pairings

It is the
parent’s responsibility to arrive early enough to verify that all
participant information is correct prior to this time

The five round
times are:

ceremony will take place immediately after the last round

Tournament Format:
-
This is a five
round, individual Swiss system paired tournament, G/30 (each player
has 30 minutes to complete all moves in a game). As an
individual championship, players will be paired without
consideration for school affiliation
-
The following
students are eligible to participate in this tournament:
-
Full-time
students enrolled in school in the state of Georgia for the entire
semester in which the event is held
-
Home schooled and
virtual schooled students must be schooled in the state of Georgia
or residents of the state of Georgia
-
There will be 6 sections in
this tournament, four championship and two novice:

Current United States Chess Federation
(USCF) membership is required for participation in all Rated
sections

Non-rated sections are
available for
a player:

All players with USCF
ratings are encourage to participate in Rated sections

Supplement will be used for this tournament

The recording of chess notation
(i.e. keeping score) is required for all Rated sections with the
exception of the Rated Primary (K-3) section. While not
required for the Rated Primary (K-3) section nor the Non-rated
sections, keeping score is strongly encouraged. Players who
elect not to keep score may forfeit certain rights, such as the
right to claim a draw by three-fold repetition of position
-
Players are responsible for
providing their own chess clocks, if desired
-
In Rated sections, if one
or more players have and want to use a chess clock, the clock
will be used for the game
-
In Non-rated sections, if
one or more players have a clock, both players must agree to the
use of the clock if the clock is to be used for the game
-
When a clock is not being
used, a tournament director may choose to apply a clock to a
game to maintain the schedule of the tournament
-
Players, not tournament
directors, are responsible for knowing how to properly set
delays in their chess clocks
-
Byes:
-
A student may miss up
to two rounds if arranged in advance during their registration
-
All
byes will be zero point byes
-
If a student cannot participate in at
least three rounds, they should not attend this event
-
Players must have a clear
understanding of all fundamental chess rules in order to
participate

Tournament Awards:
-
Top finisher in the following
sections will
receive an automatic invitation to the 2009 Georgia Junior
Invitational Scholastic Chess Championship:
-
Trophies will be given to the
TOP TEN individual finishers in each Rated section
and to all players in the rated sections scoring at least 3.5 points
-
Players in Non-rated
sections scoring at least 3.5 points will win a new one-year USCF
membership or have their current USCF membership extended by one
year
-
All players tied for
first-place will be considered co-winners, but trophies will be
awarded based upon the following tie-breaks:
